Your First Visit

What should I expect on my first visit?

The first visit begins with a comprehensive examination which includes cavity detection x-rays, an oral cancer screening, periodontal examination and examination for areas of decay or infection.

How long does a typical exam, x-rays, and cleaning take?

We reserve an hour for your initial visit.

Do you treat children? How young?

We typically will schedule children at 3 years of age for a Happy Visit. Depending on the child, this will consist of an introduction to the dental office and the things that happen during a visit, a ride in the chair and visual examination of the teeth. In some cases, we will clean the teeth and apply a fluoride treatment. The idea of the visit is a pleasant, enjoyable, fun introduction to the dental office. We will also review home care and provide nutritional counseling in regards to dental health. We will be happy to see younger children if there is a concern of infection, decay or an accident occurred.

Follow-up Visits

How often do I need to come in for a visit?

Each patient varies. Typically we see patients every 6 months for a cleaning and examination. Sometimes more frequent visits are necessary to maintain dental health.

Why would I need a deep cleaning?

A deep cleaning is the treatment for gum infection which is not simply cleaning the teeth but cleaning below the gumline on the root surfaces where the bacteria has been forming and causing infection resulting in bleeding gums, bad breath and sometimes loose teeth. This is not a routine cleaning and can involve 1-3 visits.

Where should I call for a dental emergency?

We always have a doctor on call for our patients of record. Simply call the office number and you will be directed to the doctor on call.

What insurance do you accept and will you file my insurance?

We accept most dental insurance plans, and we will prepare all the necessary forms for your dental insurance benefits. Please call the office and we will be happy to verify your insurance information.
