What is CEREC crown technology?
CEREC or Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics uses of both computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and computer-aided design (CAD). The ability to use these two systems in-office allows Franklin Family Dentistry to provide high-quality dental restoration work. With CEREC technology we are able to cut down office visits and avoid spreading dental work over the course of weeks or months.
How does CEREC work?
The initial step of the crown process remains the same. Your dentist will begin by shaving down your tooth to prepare for the CEREC crown. But, instead of the traditional wax molding that is used in the traditional crown method, we are able to scan your teeth using the CEREC scanner. This scanner renders a 3D image of your booth and the surrounding area. We then upload the image into the CAD/CAM software to create a 3D model of the new CEREC crown. Once a crown is rendered in design, our dentist will use the onsite milling machine to create the crown from a block of high-quality ceramic.
